USS North Carolina (BB-55)

The seventh, and last (for now) of the Battleship Fleet is a 1:350 scale model of USS North Carolina, made by Trumpeter.  I had read up on the kit, and the reviews were really awesome - and intimidating, especially about the paint job (if you choose to do the "dazzle" camouflage pattern she is so well known for).  I had a certain amount of trepidation in doing this model - the detail of the model looks comparable to the Musashi model I had done earlier, except Musashi was mostly grey - no camo on her...

Well, I worked long and hard on North Carolina, and the results hopefully speak for themselves.  Now, if I can only find a way to keep the ever-present dust off of her, and the others too...  The picture of Joshua holding both 1:350 kits shows how much dust accumulates in just a few days' time around here.  When I took the picture, I thought they would be okay, since I had (I thought) cleaned the dust off both models just a few days prior.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures.  I just wish they could get across the real experience of seeing the models.  Click on the small image to see a larger version...

Composite image of both sides of USS North Carolina, almost finished - the seaplanes have been added since these pictures were taken.

My son Joshua, age 8, holding both 1:350 models, Musashi (front) and North Carolina to show scale.  The "attack bird" is visible in the background, doing her best to scare the camera...
